Intensive English Program (IEP)
Our most popular program at Aston Texas is the Intensive English Program. Aston Texas' Intensive English Programs is made up of 5 levels: Beginner, Low Intermediate, Intermediate, High Intermediate and Advanced. You are given a placement test at the beginning of the semester to determine your level.
Our Aston Texas campus is based on semesters similar to what you will find at US colleges or universities. Each semester is 15 weeks. Each semester is very comprehensive and you will study all aspects of English including: Grammar & Conversation, Writing & Reading, and Listening & Discussion. You will also have different electives to choose from each semester.
Features of the Program
- Start Any Monday except during midterm and final exam weeks.
- Available for Beginner, Low Intermediate, Intermediate, High Intermediate and Advanced levels.
- You will take the following core classes: Grammar& Conversation, Writing& Reading, and Listening & Discussion.
- You can choose electives each semester, such as Pronunciation, IELTS, Idioms, Vocabulary, Film Studies and more.
- Mid-Term and Final Exams are given in all of our programs.
- You can study from 2 weeks to 15 weeks (one semester), and you can extend your program for more semesters.
- A materials fee is in addition to your tuition.

About Our Levels
Students who have completed the beginner level will be able to accomplish simple written and spoken communication about basic needs and personal topics, such as where they live, people they know and things they have. They will also be able to understand the topics of basic readings and conversations, guided by a fundamental foundation in grammar. Students will be able to use familiar expressions about everyday life and converse about concrete situations.
Low Intermediate Level
Students who have completed the low intermediate level will be able to understand and communicate ideas about the past, present and future, including organization and relationship of events. They will be able to express preferences, comparisons, explanations and agreement. They will also be able to find, record and differentiate information and meaning from different types of readings and listenings. The low intermediate level also enables students to discuss people, places, objects and events and ask for and provide clarification.
Students who have completed the intermediate level will be able to prepare for written and spoken communication, including brief presentations and simple essays, in addition to describing and commenting on stories, beliefs and experiences related to work, school, leisure and abstract ideas. They will also be able to ascertain main ideas and details from readings and listenings and predict meaning of unfamiliar language. They will feel confident discussing events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and provide reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.
Students who have completed the high intermediate level will be able to thoroughly prepare for written and spoken communication, including detailed presentations and essays. They will also be able to respond critically and make inferences about readings and listenings. The high intermediate level also enables students to communicate and evaluate problems, solutions, point of view and arguments for academic and personal topics while providing supports, details and examples. They will be able to interact with native speakers with a significant degree of fluency and spontaneity, expressing a variety of thoughts, opinions and emotions.
Students who have completed the advanced level will be able to summarize and paraphrase a wide variety of topics and information, while expressing and defending detailed critical responses to readings and discussions. They will also be able to write clear, detailed academic essays on given cultural topics, emphasizing relevant issues, in addition to writing personal essays using advanced, diverse vocabulary to convey subtle meaning and a strong writer’s voice. The advanced level enables students to provide clear, detailed descriptions and arguments about complex subjects, as well as understand and take detailed notes from natural, non-scripted English. Advanced students will be able to speak spontaneously and successfully interact with flexibility in social, academic and professional settings.
We offer an Intermediate and Advanced TOEFL Preparation Program. You will be doing some of the following activities in the classroom:
- Read academic texts on a variety of topics
- Listen to academic texts on a variety of topics
- Talk about the overall main idea of a text or listening
- Practice finding the main ideas of each paragraph of a text- Discuss where to find the main ideas and details of a text or listening
- Discuss how to distinguish general and specific ideas
- Do multiple-choice questions with detail information from a text or listening
- Practice orally summarizing the main ideas from a text or listening
- Practice summarizing in writing the main ideas from a text or listening
- Talk about and practice strategies for effective note-taking
- Do multiple-choice exercises that focus on sentence paraphrasing
- Discuss transition words and which are best for speaking or writing
- Practice speaking with transition words
